HETTANZ Student Fashion Award Winners 2016

Once again HETTANZ member school students from around New Zealand have entered outstanding work for the HETTANZ Student Fashion Awards judged last week.

“The Home Economics and Technology Teachers Association of New Zealand (HETTANZ) Student Fashion Awards are a key event on the national fashion calendar and attract an amazing range of entries,” says HETTANZ President, Sarah Wirth

“The stunning work of all these students shows that the fashion, garment and textiles construction programmes provide a valuable education experience” says Sarah

Sarah said HETTANZ ,with major Sponsor Bernina, is proud to support Fashion and Textiles Technology teachers and their students through this annual competition.

“The quality of the entries made judging very challenging” said chief judge from Bernina, Julie Veck

“We are very grateful to Bernina for the sponsorship and the amazing prizes they have offered.”

Judge Julie Clement commented on the wide range of creative entries that were of a high standard especially in workmanship and presentation. Fellow judge Sue Hannaway commented on the “wide variety of entries showing lots of innovative and creative ideas”. Sue also mentioned that it was “good to see many students being sustainable in their design choices and use of materials”.

We would also like to thank Sullivans for providing prizes for second place winners.

The Awards, proudly supported by Bernina, were open to all HETTANZ member school students working in materials technology, fashion technology, clothing and textiles.  Schools were asked to manage a ‘selection’ process and send only the best two garments in each category for national judging.

Congratulations to these successful students.
