By completing the HETTANZ Food & Nutrition Certificate students will develop skills to:

  • Examine the influence of Food and Nutrition in relation to your own well-being (Health promotion – Socio-ecological factors – Attitudes and Values)
  • Examine the influences impacting on food choices and eating patterns and ways of addressing these.
  • Promote safe food handling practices in a variety of contexts.
  • Develop health enhancing attitudes to food and nutrition.
  • Gain knowledge and confidence to safely prepare health promoting food for yourself and others in a variety of contexts.

By completing the HETTANZ Food Technology Certificate students will develop skills to:

  • Justify the nature of an intended outcome in relation to the need or opportunity.
  • Describe specifications that reflect key stakeholder feedback and that will inform the development of an outcome and its evaluation.
  • Analyse their own and others’ outcomes to inform the development of ideas for feasible outcomes.
  • Undertake ongoing functional modelling and evaluation that takes account of key stakeholder feedback and trialling in the physical and social environments.
  • Use the information gained to select and develop the outcome that best addresses the specifications.
  • Evaluate the final outcome’s fitness for purpose against the brief.
  • Understand how materials are selected, based on desired performance criteria

By completing the HETTANZ Applied Design Certificate students will develop skills to:

  • Justify the nature of an intended outcome in relation to the need or opportunity.
  • Describe specifications that reflect key stakeholder feedback and that will inform the development of an outcome and its evaluation.
  • Analyse their own and others’ planning practices to inform the selection and use of planning tools. Use these to support and justify planning decisions (including those relating to the management of resources) that will see the development of an outcome through to completion.
  • Analyse their own and others’ outcomes to inform the development of ideas for feasible outcomes.
  • Undertake ongoing functional modelling and evaluation that takes account of key stakeholder feedback and trialling in the physical and social environments.
  • Use the information gained to select and develop the outcome that best addresses the specifications.
  • Evaluate the final outcome’s fitness for purpose against the brief.

By completing the Technology certificates students gain technological literacy though the development of:

On receipt of your school's order form you are registered to offer the HETTANZ / National Certificate programme purchased.
Registration is automatic and entitles your school to receive:

  • by courier, the number of books purchased
  • any update material for the teacher guide
  • any additional resource material required for the programme
  • moderation information
  • student summary sheets
  • student certificates. The number is determined by the number of books purchased and these are issued on receipt of the school's results and completion of the program

The entry fee covers the cost of

  • Booklets - typesetting, artwork
  • Moderators - TRD's training and travel, moderation procedures
  • Certificates - data processing, checking, printing
  • Administration - data processing, communication, packaging and postage/courier

Moderation is carried out in order to ensure there is national consistency in the application of the assessment criteria. To ensure this national consistency the following moderation process will be applied:

  • Schools will be randomly selected for moderation
  • You will be notified of your involvement by the 31st July. If you have not been notified by the first week of August you can assume you are not involved in this process
  • Moderation will be postal. Schools must meet the cost of sending the books to the contractor. HETTANZ will meet courier costs for the return of this work.
  • Moderation will occur during August-October but individual times can be negotiated for schools who find the time line difficult to meet.
  • A condition of participating in the HETTANZ / National Certificate programme is participation in the moderation process i.e. if you are selected for moderation you must submit the materials required.
  • A moderated school will be required to send two student work books for each level of achievements, for each programme offered by the school.
