hettanz fashion awards

Once again, the HETTANZ Executive team is pleased to announce the success of the 2025 Fashion Awards event, which received generous support from our Platinum partner Bernina. Judging took place on Tuesday 14th October, and we were delighted to see continued participation from schools across New Zealand. We extend our thanks to the teachers who submitted their students' work, as their commitment and encouragement are vital.

“An outstanding year for the Fashion Awards with record entries and work of an extraordinary quality” says HETTANZ president, Adrienne Reeves. “My thanks on behalf of all HETTANZ members, goes to the judging team: Pip Stevenson (Whitecliffe-Wellington Campus), Rebecca Owen (Bernina) and Executive representative Sue Hannaway (Upper Hutt College), who dedicated their time to evaluate the impressive entries”

The competition featured various categories for Intermediate (Years 7-8), Junior (Years 9 10), and Senior (Years 11-13) levels, focusing on technical sewing skills, creativity with fabric, applied design, and a new non- wearable item category.

Our major sponsor has again provided fantastic prizes, including sewing machines and overlockers, for the category winners. The guest judges continue to be impressed by the high quality and technical standard of the entries - some of the decisions were extremely tough this year. They also highlighted the creativity and personal touches in the designs and their narrative. It is heart-warming to see the level of talent and commitment of our ākonga.

Congratulations to the successful students and thank you to all the teachers and Whanau for their invaluable support!
